Coffee Crawl fundraiser to benefit foster children in Brazos Valley

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Coffee lovers can support foster children while sampling from local shops through a fundraiser organized by Voices for Children CASA Brazos Valley.

The organization is hosting a coffee crawl Feb. 16-27 that gives participants access to free drinks at independent coffee shops throughout the Bryan-College Station area.

“The premise is that with a $35 donation, you get the mug as well as a punch card and a sticker,” said Olivia Dechert, a representative from Voices for Children. “With the punch card, you’re able to go around to different local coffee shops all over the Bryan-College Station area.”

For $35, participants receive a commemorative mug, a punch card, and a sticker. The punch card provides one free cup of coffee at each of 10 participating local coffee shops, including What’s the Buzz, Sweet Eugene’s, and Polite.

Mugs are available in 15 colors on a first-come, first-served basis.

Voices for Children CASA is the local branch of Court Appointed Special Advocates, which trains community volunteers to advocate for foster youth.

“What we do is we train and support local community members who volunteer to advocate for foster youth until they reach a safe and permanent home,” Olivia said.

Funds raised support staff supervisors and meet the needs of foster care families, including school clothes, grocery gift cards,a and activity fees.

“It’s just normal kids’, stuff, as well as making sure that those advocates are well prepared to advocate for the best interest of the child,” Olivia said.
